  "Molympia"

When we first moved to Olympia Washington we were amazed at the lush green countryside, beautiful views of Mt.Rainier and the abundance of land cultivated by moles! Acres of pastureland, as well as the Capital grounds, dotted with row upon row of molehills. As I looked out across the meadow with the mountain as backdrop, the image of the two farmer moles came to mind, and a series was born. Since then scenes of mole life, past and present keep coming to me. Some moles show up in my imagination dressed in period costume, others in present day garb and it occurred to me that moles are and always have been survivors, carrying on their busy lives with very little concern for the large life forms above ground. To honor this I am writing a children's book about a mole family, living and thriving in Molympia.
